Victims of domestic violence can ask the concerned/mahila court to issue protection orders to keep their abuser away. Keeping in view the rights guaranteed under our constitution to provide for a remedy under civil law which is intended to protect the woman from being victims of domestic violence and to prevent the occurrence of domestic violence in the society. It covers all those women who are sisters, mothers, single women living with abuser and are related by way of consanguinity, marriage, joint family, adoption. On one hand this act guarantees monetary relief along with shelter/residence; on the other hand it provides protection orders against any type of physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and economic abuse.
